Lineage II: the clan, siege, and open-world game

What is Lineage 2 — also called Lineage II or L2 — is NCSoft’s desktop MMORPG set on the continent of Aden: persistent clans, castle sieges, and open-world PvP that does not reset when you log out. That is the useful answer. It is not a match lobby, not a battle royale, and not the phone game with the same dragon on the icon. It is the Lineage 2 PC game where the weight sits on clan, farm, and your hands.

This URL is the game hub. It is not the Interlude chronicle sheet, not a private-server explainer, and not the “is it dead in 2026” argument. What is L2: a persistent kingdom, not a match

People who type what is L2 sometimes expect a MOBA or a season that ends in a lobby. The Lineage 2 MMORPG is a different cut. You make a character, level it, join a clan, and contest territory on a map other players also live on. There is no battle-royale “end of season.” There is siege, Olympiad, Adena farm, and PvP in the field.

If your last MMO was a theme park — queued dungeons, instanced raids, a PvP bracket you opt into — Aden will feel rude. Hunting grounds are not reserved. A road between cities is content. A party of nine can hold a floor; a dagger can wait on the exit. That is the design NCSoft shipped when Lineage 2 launched in Korea on 1 October 2003 and in North America on 28 April 2004. PvE exists. A castle or an epic is still won by people who showed up on the same clock.

Lineage II, L2, and Lineage 2: the English name problem

The box and the old NA trailer said Lineage II. Google and Reddit say Lineage 2. Voice chat says L2. Those are not sequels. They are one executable and one continent.

What you must split is the product, not the spelling:

• Lineage 2 / Lineage II / L2 (PC): the desktop client. A Interlude private such as L2 Sansara uses Interlude protocol, l2.exe, and a patch in the System folder.
• Lineage 2 on Steam: official NCSoft storefront. In 2026 that listing is Essence, and on some storefronts Classic. Neither is the Interlude client. Installing Steam “Lineage2” and wondering why L2 Sansara rejects the login is the most common English-speaker mistake on this page.
• Lineage 2M and other mobiles: other products. Same logo family, other login. They will not enter L2 Sansara.

Official versus private is a separate argument — start at official vs private Lineage 2. This hub only fixes the name: L2 equals Lineage II equals Lineage 2, and none of those strings mean “the thing I bought on Steam.”

The logo trap: Lineage 1, Steam Essence, and the phone games

Lineage — the first game, 1998 — is NCSoft’s isometric 2D MMORPG. Huge in Korea. Thin North American footprint. Lineage 2 is the 3D sequel. They share gods and the word Aden on a loading screen. They do not share an account, a camera, or an .exe.

Lineage 2 Revolution is Netmarble’s 2016 mobile title. Lineage 2M is NCSoft’s own phone product. Lineage W is another SKU. None of them talk to a C6 login. If it is not the desktop l2.exe, it is not the game this server runs. The mobile split lives on Lineage 2M vs PC.

Steam is the other trap for US and EU players. Essence and Classic are official NCSoft games with their own class trees and launchers. They do not speak Interlude. A High Five client does not speak Interlude either. Chronicle mismatch shows up as protocol errors, not as “Aden with extra races.” The storefront comparison is Interlude vs Classic and Essence.

Aden: the continent the game actually happens on

Aden Lineage 2 is the map, not a cutscene. Lineage 2 lore exists — Einhasad, Shilen, Gran Kain, old wars between races — and it frames why villages hate each other. Lineage 2 history in the novel sense is backdrop. Day to day, Aden is Giran’s plaza, Aden Castle’s walls, the road through Dion, Goddard’s plateau, Rune’s north. Lore does not hand you a set. Clan and farm do.

Towns you will actually hear: Talking Island and Gludin on the west coast, then Gludio, Dion, Giran, Oren, Hunters Village, Heine in Innadril, Aden in the center, Goddard and Rune further north, Schuttgart at the edge. Ivory Tower is where mystics cluster. This page is not a teleport table — that is cities and teleport. Aden is one continent you share, not an instance that rebuilds for your party.

Five races, five villages, no Kamael

The Interlude cut that L2 Sansara hosts has five races. There is no Kamael. If a thumbnail sells you a winged sixth race, that is a later chronicle.

• Human: widest tree — tanks, daggers, archers, nukes, priests. Spawn: Talking Island Village.
• Elf: bow, light armor, support magic. Spawn: Elven Village.
• Dark Elf: dagger and dark nuke. Spawn: Dark Elven Village, by the Temple of Shilen.
• Orc: brute force and totems. Overlord and Warcryer walk a clan into siege. Spawn: Orc Village on the Immortal Plateau.
• Dwarf: spoil, craft, Warsmith. No Mystic path. Spawn: Dwarven Village.

Race is locked at create. You do not unlock Kamael later — the race is not in the client. Role ranking is best classes in Interlude; race flavor is Interlude races. Five doors, then the map pushes you toward Gludio, Dion, and Giran.

Class is a quest chain, not a create-screen dropdown

You do not pick Phoenix Knight on the create screen. You pick a race and a path: Fighter or Mystic. The character specializes three times, always through a quest: first occupation around 20, second at 40, third at 76. Interlude’s cap is 80. No Awakening. No dual class. Subclass is a second job on the same character; on L2 Sansara that transfer is free on the published sheet and opens at 75. Noblesse — required for Olympiad — is last-hit on Raid Boss Barakiel while you are in a party. Details: subclass and noblesse.

English veterans remember NA retail’s second class names: Hawkeye, Treasure Hunter, Sorcerer, Necromancer, Warsmith, Warcryer. Interlude’s third class renames them. Hawkeye becomes Sagittarius. Treasure Hunter becomes Adventurer. Sorcerer becomes Archmage. Necromancer becomes Soultaker. Warsmith becomes Maestro. Warcryer becomes Doomcryer. Paladin becomes Phoenix Knight; Dark Avenger becomes Hell Knight. If someone shouts “need a TH,” they mean the dagger line that ends as Adventurer.

Second occupation is three quests you can start in the mid-30s and turn in at 40 with your race’s Grand Master, High Priest, or Prefect. Third occupation wants Fate’s Whisper plus your class saga. If L2 Sansara publishes a quest shortcut, it is on /info. The mechanic is class change in Interlude.

What a night in Aden actually feels like

The kingdom keeps running while you are at work. The same account feels different depending on whether anyone called a clock.

Hunting when nobody called a clock

You leave town with soulshots or spiritshots and a zone in mind. Early: the woods outside your race village. Then Gludio and Dion, then the roads that feed Giran. Later names — Cruma Tower, Tower of Insolence, Dragon Valley — have their own articles; this hub will not map them. A party is up to nine. On L2 Sansara, EXP, SP, and Adena move at x500. Item drop and spoil stay x1. You level fast. S-grade does not fall off every mob “because the rate is high.” Someone can still flag you.

Giran as the trading floor

Giran is the plaza English-speaking Interlude still means when they say “town.” Private stores, warehouse, craft NPCs, shout chat arguing a price. A market night is selling the farm, restocking shots, enchanting to the safe +4, and deciding whether a scroll goes past that. L2 Sansara’s enchant cap is +18. We do not invent shop prices. Adena x500 fills a bag faster than a x1 retail memory; the rare recipe still matters. Offline shop exists here — up to seven days if /info still says so. There is no autofarm.

Purple names, red names, and why a solo is not safe

If you hit someone who was not fighting you, the server marks you. Purple is flag: you entered PvP. Red is karma: you went PK. A chaotic name is free hunting — anyone can kill you without becoming PK themselves. Town guards attack red. Dying with heavy karma can drop equipped gear. Farm is not AFK-safe. A rage PK is paid in time on mobs, and in reputation. This page does not invent drop percentages. Flag and karma: PvP, PK, and karma.

Clans, castle walls, and Olympiad in GMT-3

A clan is not a Discord tag. It is how you take a castle, hold a clan hall, run a raid, and keep a bench that will show up. Academy (clan level 5+, a character under 40 with no second occupation) is chronicle mechanics. Without a clan, the political endgame is a rumor you watch from Giran.

Castle siege moves the map. Interlude’s castles are Gludio, Dion, Giran, Oren, Aden, Innadril, Goddard, Rune, and Schuttgart. The weekday is server policy — we do not invent one. Read /info and the castle siege guide. Fortress warfare is a later chronicle. Raid names you will hear: Queen Ant, Core, Orfen, Zaken, Baium, Antharas, Valakas, Frintezza. This hub will not publish HP or timers.

Olympiad is noblesse, fights, Hero. On L2 Sansara the window is 18:00–22:00 GMT-3 — 21:00–01:00 UTC. Convert it before you complain the server is “empty at prime time.” US Eastern: 16:00–20:00 standard, 17:00–21:00 daylight. United Kingdom: 21:00–01:00 GMT, or 22:00–02:00 BST. Central Europe: 22:00 start in winter, 23:00 in summer. We do not invent ping. Hero on this sheet is noblesse plus nine fights, not a Steam achievement. Rules: Olympiad and Hero.

The Lineage 2 PC client Steam will not sell you

The classic Lineage 2 PC game is a mid-2000s Windows executable. Interlude is DirectX 9-era software. It still runs on Windows 10 and 11 if you install outside Program Files, drop the server patch in System, and launch l2.exe. It is not a remaster and not the Steam launcher. Specs: Windows requirements.

• Steam Essence or Classic ≠ Interlude. Official launchers do not speak this protocol.
• A High Five (or later) client will not enter an Interlude server, and the reverse is also true.
• L2 Sansara’s patch goes on a clean Interlude client from /download. A random torrent is malware risk and a protocol lottery.

What L2 Sansara adds — and what it does not change

Interlude is the chronicle. The private is a layer on top. Do not judge C6 by another server’s shop. On L2 Sansara: EXP, SP, and Adena x500; item drop and spoil x1; safe enchant +4; enchant cap +18; Olympiad 18:00–22:00 GMT-3. Anyone who hears “x500” and expects S-grade to rain is disappointed on day two. Fast levels, slow gear — that is the economy. Rate table: Lineage 2 rates.

Gear language is no-grade through D, C, B, A, and S. No S80 on Interlude. Soul crystals (SA), life-stone augments, dyes, and shots are the long game after the level bar stops being the problem. We do not invent prices.

Quality-of-life this server ships: an NPC buffer with saved schemes and an AIO option, .sellbuff, .deposit / .withdraw, offline shop, and an anti-farm rule of one PC to one farming account. There is no autofarm. If a command is not on /info, it is not a fact. What a pserver even is: Lineage 2 private server. This hub only marks that L2 Sansara is one of them, running Interlude.
